THE GOOD GUYS in these parts still wear white hats — only these are the celebrity chefs who have helped turn the Valley of the Sun into a widely acknowledged “food destination.”

Among today’s hottest chefs is
Pierino Jermonti of T. Cooks at the Royal Palms Resort (602-808-0766). Jermonti, who prepares dinners-to-impress in a richly sophisticated ambience, has positioned T. Cooks as one of Phoenix’s finest. Eddie Matney put robustly flavored eclectic cuisine on the Arizona map. Most recently, the inventive chef moved Eddie Matney’s to the trendy Camelback Corridor (602-957-3214).

Southwest cuisine has taken on many intriguing variations in the Valley of the Sun. At chef
Robert McGrath’s signature restaurant, Roaring Fork (480-947-0795), the food is unique gourmet Southwest; the comfortable surroundings exude cowboy chic. Norman’s Arizona (602-956-2288) bridges the flavor gap between traditional Mexican dishes and elegant Southwest. Norman Fierro’s style mixes urban informality with unforgettable taste.
